Criteria to import second hand motor vehicle

When importing from Japan

  • The original Export Certificate and English version of the export Certificate are needed. And optionally evidences to confirm the year of manufacture of the second hand vehicle from the Japan Road Transport Authority signed by the authorized signatory might be required.

 

Importing from countries like Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Singapore… etc.

  • Cancellation Certificate, De-registration certificate and/or relevant documents from the Road Transport Authority of the importing country to prove the year of manufacture of the vehicle, that is to be certified and signed by the appropriate authorities.

To obtain the delivery

  • Clearance of quarantine/agriculture, passport, invoice receipt showing total price paid and date of purchase, registration papers, invoice showing export costs, invoice showing freight costs and insurance, Lading bill, odometer reading at time of sale for export and importation.
  • The vehicle should be presented to LTA (Land Transport Authority), with the copies of the bill of lading, paid and certified copy of the Single Administration Document (SAD green copy) and de-registration certificate.
  • On personal motor vehicles no duty concession.
  • Personal belongings should not be packed in to vehicles during the shipment.

Valuation of privately imported vehicles

Customs value in normal importing circumstances is determined as the price paid or payable, but privately imported vehicles’ custom value is determined in accordance with the provisions of the CTA.
